Holistic Mental Health

Integrative Methods for optimal Mental Health

In many ways, a lot of us are waking up. Waking up to the idea that healthcare as we know it is sick care. There is a better way. A way to feel better and more whole without needing to take even more medication to manage side effects. A way where we can work towards achieving balance without sacrificing our peace of mind.

I have seen a growing number of individuals become interested in learning how nature, nutrition, and intention can help to achieve optimal mental health. Are you curious what your options for naturally improved sleep, without meds? Do you want to find out how to improve your mood by improving your gut health, immune system, and hormonal health? I am here to help.

My Training

I have studied with Dr. Leslie Korn, a pioneer in the use of food, supplementation, and holistic interventions to improve mental health. The goal is to use natural methods to optimize functioning, reduce psychiatric medication use (with the consent and guidance of a prescriber), and enable the body to recover from trauma, mood issues, and sleep issues more comprehensively.

This allows me to combine my extensive Psychotherapy training alongside other holistic evidence-based practices.

Why a Mental Health Provider and not a Health Coach?

I have a lot of respect for health coaches. I think they do a great service educating others and providing support for making admirable changes in diet/exercise and lifestyle choices. Their approach and training work well for a lot ofpeople.

However, Holistic Health Coaches are not trained in mental health. I have found when working alongside them clientsthey often feel uncomfortable and ill-equipped to coach someone who may present as anxious or may struggle to make changes.

Often, mental health symptoms can appear to impede progress and can be a clue to understanding the root cause of behavior change challenges. What a health coach may label as “not being motivated” or “not being invested” is usually never the whole story.

Not having that training or insight into mental health can be a barrier to change and healing. Even with some of the suggestions on how to manage stress, gain insight, and engage with coping skills, I found that I often disagreed with their approaches/suggestions. It didn’t fit in with what I know about behavior change.

I decided that I needed to learn more about food as medicine and integrative methods to provide a more comprehensive service to my patients. A one-stop experience for holistic and nutrition-based intervention. An approach where your mental health is never ignored or viewed to be “ too much”.

Holistic Health is Personal

Throughout my life, I have struggled with chronic health concerns like many people. In most cases (the exception being my orthopedic doctors) I've been told that the only answer is a prescription drug. In many instances, I have been told by doctors that the only way to stabilize my health is to stay on medications.

Intentional or not this message of fear never felt right to me. After a true health crisis ten years ago I’ve been committed to learning other ways to heal the root cause issues. Training with Leslie Korn was one of those paths.   There have been many other experts whose wisdom has proven to be life-changing as well.

In addition to my chiropractors, acupuncturists, herbalists, energy healers, and intuitive practitioners guiding me I have also committed to living a life where food is a health stabilizer. Since that time I have been medication-free, healed my gut, my hormones, and much more.

For those interested, I teach these methods and encourage exploration of how herbs, supplements, and food choices can heal our mental health at the root. I am a firm believer that symptom management and healing are not the same. My goal for all of my clients is personal freedom from these symptoms, not control.
